Choke Diaphragm: Accord

  1. Disconnect choke heater wire. Open and close throttle fully to allow choke to close. Start engine. Choke should open partially. If choke does not open partially, go to next step. If choke opens partially and temperature is less than 58°F (14°C), go to step  4 . If choke opens partially and temperature is greater than 77°F (25°C), go to step  6 .
  2. Check linkage for binding or sticking. Repair as necessary. If linkage is okay and choke still does not open, disconnect 2 vacuum hoses from choke opener diaphragm. Apply vacuum to outer (No. 18) fitting while blocking inner (No. 26) fitting with finger or vacuum plug. If rod will not pull in and/or stay in, replace diaphragm assembly.
  3. If rod pulls in and stays in, diaphragm is functioning properly. Reconnect vacuum hoses and go to CRANKING LEAK SOLENOID  test.
  4. If choke opened partially in step 1) and temperature is less than 58°F (14°C), tab "A" on the choke lever should not be seated against carburetor. If tab "A is not seated against carburetor, go to step  6 . If tab "A" is seated against carburetor, disconnect outer choke diaphragm hose. If tab "A" comes off its seat, check vacuum hose and thermovalve for blockage.

  5. If tab "A" does not come off its seat, press down on choke opener lever until it does. Release lever. If tab "A" won't stay off its seat, clean out choke diaphragm hose fitting with a No. 60 drill bit and retest.
  6. Warm vehicle to operating temperature. If choke opened partially in step 1) and temperature is now greater than than 77°F (25°C), tab "A" should be seated against carburetor. If tab "A" is seated against carburetor, reconnect choke heater and go to step 7). If tab is not seated, check vacuum hose to outer choke diaphragm for leaks. Check thermovalve operation. Go to CRANKING LEAK SOLENOID  test. See Fig 1 .
