System Check: Prelude

  1. With engine coolant less than 59°F (15°C), disconnect vacuum hose at cranking leak solenoid. Connect vacuum pump to solenoid. Turn ignition switch to "START" position. Apply vacuum. If vacuum holds, go to CRANKING LEAK SOLENOID  test.
  2. If vacuum does not hold, disconnect outer vacuum hose from choke opener diaphragm. Connect vacuum pump to hose. Start engine and apply vacuum. If vacuum does not hold, go to next step. If vacuum does hold, check hose for proper connection or blockage. If hose is okay, replace thermovalve and retest.
  3. Start engine and allow to reach operating temperature (cooling fan comes on). Disconnect outer choke opener diaphragm hose. Connect vacuum pump to hose. Apply vacuum. If vacuum holds, system is operating properly. If vacuum does not hold, check hose for proper connection, cracks, blockage or disconnection. If hose is okay, replace thermovalve and retest.
