Ignition Timing

  1. Timing marks are located on timing belt cover and crankshaft pulley. Connect timing light. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).
  2. Remove Yellow rubber cap from ignition timing check connector. Connector is located on left rear side of engine compartment. Connect jumper wire between Brown and Green/White wire terminal connectors. See Fig 1 .
  3. Check and adjust ignition timing to specification, if necessary. See IGNITION TIMING  table. To adjust, loosen hold-down bolt(s) and turn distributor housing counterclockwise to advance or clockwise to retard timing. Tighten hold-down bolts and recheck timing. Remove jumper wire from ignition timing check connector.

    Civic 16-20 @ 700-800
    CRX
    HF (1) 14 @ 600-700
    Si 18 @ 700-800
    Std 18 @ 700-800
    (1) 550-650 RPM on California vehicles.
