WARNING:
The Insight charging system is part of the Integrated Motor Assisted (IMA) system which uses 144-volt circuits. The Insight charging system is not covered by this article. Do not attempt to service system as it requires special tools and training.
Charging system incorporates Electric Load Detector (ELD), which measures load on the charging system. ELD sends signal to the PCM, which controls the voltage regulator. By adjusting voltage output, PCM reduces mechanical load on engine for better fuel economy.
