Repair and Diagnosis: Electrical: Starter: Inspection: Commutator

Inspect commutator for roughness, grooves, burns or pitting. If necessary, sand lightly with 500-600 grit sandpaper. Check commutator for out-of-round and mica insulators undercut. Commutator may be turned .04" (1.0 mm) mica undercut. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  table. Replace if excessively worn.
