Return Test

Apply 12 volts to solenoid "M" terminal and ground starter case. Manually pull pinion drive out and then release it or push solenoid plunger into solenoid body by hand. See Fig 1. This test MUST be performed in 10 seconds or less to prevent coil burn out. Pinion drive should return quickly to original position or solenoid plunger should pop out of solenoid. If pinion drive does not return to original position, replace solenoid.
