Bleeding Procedure

NOTE: Use the following procedure to ensure adequate bleeding of Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU), master cylinder and brake lines.
  1. Fill master cylinder reservoir with DOT 3 or equivalent brake fluid. Connect a plastic hose to right rear wheel bleeder screw. Place other end of hose in container partly filled with fresh brake fluid. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel.
  2. CAUTION: Failure to wait 60 seconds before operating pump motor a second time may cause damage to pump motor.
  3. Select VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS on scan tool. Select ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, then AIR BLEEDING MODE. Press YES key to start bleeding (pump motor and solenoid will operate). If further bleeding is necessary, wait 60 seconds before operating pump motor a second time.
  4. Open bleeder valve and have assistant slowly press brake pedal to floor. Close bleeder valve and release brake pedal. Repeat procedure and bleed until no air bubbles are seen in container. Bleed remaining wheels starting with left front, left rear and right front in that order. Refill brake fluid reservoir.
