Bleeding Procedure

CAUTION: Do not allow brake fluid to contact with a painted surface.

This procedure should be followed to ensure adequate bleeding of air from and filling of the ABS unit, brake lines and master cylinder with brake fluid. To bleed brake system perform following:

  1. Remove master cylinder reservoir cap. Fill brake reservoir with brake fluid. When pressure bleeding, DO NOT depress brake pedal. Connect a clear plastic tube to appropriate wheel cylinder bleeder plug, and insert other end of tube into a half-filled clear plastic bottle. Go to next step.
  2. NOTE: Follow manufacturer's instructions on scan tool.
  3. Connect HI-SCAN (PRO) or equivalent scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of dash panel. Maximum operating time of ABS motor with scan tool must be followed to prevent motor pump from burning out. On scan tool, select HYUNDAI VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS. Select vehicle name, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, and AIR BLEEDING MODE. Following on screen instructions, operate ABS pump motor and solenoid valve.
  4. Pump brake pedal several times, and loosen appropriate brake bleeder screw. Allow fluid to bleed until fluid runs clean and no air bubbles are present. Tighten bleeder screw to 5-6.6 INCH lbs. (7-9 N.m). Repeat procedure at each wheel. Bleed brakes in following order:
    • Right Rear
    • Left Front
    • Left Rear
    • Right Front
