Output Current Test: Preparation
- Prior to test, check following items and correct as necessary.
- Check the battery installed in vehicle to ensure that it is in good condition.
- The battery that is used to test output current should be one that has been partially discharged. With a fully charged battery, test may not be conducted correctly due to an insufficient load.
- Check the tension of the generator belt.
- Turn off the ignition switch.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Disconnect the generator output wire from the generator "B" terminal.
- Connect a DC ammeter (0 to 100A) in series between "B" terminal and disconnected output wire. Be sure to connect (-) lead wire of the ammeter to disconnected output wire. See Fig 1NOTE: Tighten each connection securely, as a heavy current will flow. DO NOT rely on clips.
- Connect a voltmeter to (0 to 20V) between "B" terminal and ground. Connect (+) lead wire to generator "B" terminal and (-) lead wire to a good ground.
- Attach an engine tachometer and connect the battery ground cable.
- Leave the engine hood open.
