ECM REPROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS FOR P0139 & P0159 AND REPROGRAMMING FOR SMOOTHER FEELING INITIAL ACCELERATION

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 02-36-032-1, Date of Issue:  December, 2002
HYUNDAI: 2001 XG300; 2002 XG350
GROUP: 36 - Engine Electrical
Superceded Bulletin(s): 02-36-032
NOTE: This TSB supercedes 02-36-032. The ECM ID has been updated.

DESCRIPTION

(1) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON - DTC P0139 & P0159:

Some 2001-2002 XG300/350 vehicles may turn on the "Check Engine" light and have the diagnostic trouble codes P0139 and P0159 stored in the ECM.

These diagnostic trouble codes can be set incorrectly under certain driving conditions.

If the codes are set erroneously (the front O2 sensors function normally when diagnosed using the Hi-Scan Pro), perform the ECM software reprogramming procedure using the Hi-Scan Pro as outlined below.

(2) SMOOTHER FEELING ACCELERATION:

The initial acceleration characteristics of some 2002 XG350 vehicles may not feel as smooth as some customers desire.

A previous TSB and ECM reprogramming addressed this condition (TSB # 02-36-007 ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR SMOOTHER FEELING ACCELERATION).

This TSB and the accompanying ECM reprogramming makes an ADDITIONAL improvement above and beyond the previous TSB, as well as a correction for the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON - DTC P0139 & P0159 condition.

CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING

  1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.
  2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.
WARNING: If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.
  3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
  4. Do not turn the ignition key off during reprogramming.

ECM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

NOTE: Verify that the vehicle is affected by identifying the vehicle production date and VIN.

AUTOMATIC UPDATE PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the current system software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the reprogramming software card into the Hi-Scan Pro top slot.
