Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns.
DESCRIPTION
This bulletin provides the procedure to reprogram the Blue Link TMU (Telematics Unit) software.
TMU REPROGRAMMING
Applicable Vehicles: 2012 Model Year Veloster (FS) Produced From Start of Production through 1/20/2012

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
- Make sure the GDS is updated to the latest version using internet smart update.
- Make sure the vehicle's battery has reasonable charge. If the vehicle has been in storage for a long period of time, run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable update results.
- Turn off all lights (do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater/air conditioner/fan, audio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc) to ensure the battery will not be discharged during the update.
- Perform the update with the ignition key in the ON position. (Turn ignition key to the ON position or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
- Do not disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or the GDS during the update.
- Do not start the engine or turn the ignition switch OFF during the update.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Connect the USB cable between the GDS and the VCI.
- Connect the 16-pin DLC connector from the VCI into the DLC located under the driver's side dash (within the fuse box).
- Press the power button on the VCI to turn it ON
.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position. (Turn ignition key to the ON position, or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
GDS AUTO MODE TMU REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
- From the GDS home page, select ECU Upgrade
. After selecting ECU Upgrade
, if the GDS does not automatically detect the VIN, then manually enter the VIN number.
- Select TMU
as the system and then select OK
.
- Select Auto Mode
and then select Next
.
- Select TMU
and then select Next
.
- The GDS will read the ROM ID. Confirm the ROM is applicable as shown on Page 1, "ROM ID Information Table".
- Select the reprogramming event "263 FS TMU UPDATE"
and then select Upgrade
.
- If the screen indicates "Voltage is OK"
(voltage 12volts or greater), select OK
. If not, select CANCEL
and charge the vehicle battery by running the engine for 10 minutes.
- Reprogramming will begin and the progress of the update will appear on the bar graph. It will take approximately 11 minutes until the progress bar reaches 100%.
- When the reprogramming is completed, wait for a pop up screen shown below, turn the ignition OFF for 20 seconds
, and then turn it back ON
(Turn ignition key to the ON position or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal). Select OK
.
- Wait for a pop up screen indicating the reprogramming was successful. Select OK
.
- Check if any incidental Diagnostic Codes (DTC) have been created by the reprogramming, and then clear all the DTC (s).
- Confirm all the DTC(s) have been cleared from the GDS, and then proceed with clearing the DTC(s) from the Blue Link system. See the last section of this TSB for instructions on how to clear DTC(s) through Blue Link.
GDS MANUAL MODE TMU REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
- The manual reprogramming should be performed only when the automatic update fails.
- If automatic reprogramming fails, or if somehow the reprogramming was interrupted while downloading the software, then do the following:
- Disconnect battery negative (-) cable for about 5 minutes.
- Reconnect the negative (-) cable, and then proceed to perform the manual reprogramming.
- From the GDS home page, select ECU Upgrade
. After selecting ECU Upgrade
, if the GDS does not automatically detect the VIN, then manually enter the VIN number.
- Select TMU
as the system and then select OK
.
- Select Manual Mode
and then select Next
.
- Select TMU
and then select Next
.
- Select the reprogramming event "263 FS TMU UPDATE(VER. 2)"
and then select Next
.
- Select "FS TMU: 96510-2V100/150"
and then select Upgrade
. A pop up screen will request for a Password. Enter 2150
and then select OK
.
- If the vehicle battery voltage is 12 volts or greater, then select OK
. If not, select CANCEL
and charge the vehicle battery by running the engine for 10 minutes.
- Reprogramming will begin and the progress of the update will appear on the bar graph. It will take approximately 11 minutes until the progress bar reaches 100%.
- When the reprogramming is completed, wait for a pop up screen shown below, turn the ignition OFF for 20 seconds
, and then turn it back ON

- Wait for a pop up screen indicating the reprogramming was successful. Select OK

- Confirm all the DTC(s) have been cleared from the GDS, and then proceed with clearing the DTC(s) from the Blue Link system. See the next section of this TSB for instructions on how to clear DTC(s) through Blue Link.
CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC CODE(S) FROM BLUE LINK SYSTEM
- After reprogramming the TMU, it is possible a diagnostic code(s) may trigger. Therefore, it is necessary to also clear the diagnostic code(s) from Blue Link system.
- Before starting Blue Link code clearing procedure, confirm if the vehicle is already enrolled in Blue Link account.
- Once account status has been determined, refer to the appropriate section below for the correct procedure to clear Blue Link Diagnostic Code(s).
HOW TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE HAS BEEN ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected. Turn the engine ON with key or press the "START/STOP" button with the foot engaged on the brake pedal.
- Allow the engine to idle for at least 10 seconds, and then press the Blue Link button
on the rear view mirror.
- Wait for the system to prompt "Please say the name of the service" , and then say "Menu ".
- The interactive voice will announce one of the available options below which will determine the blue link account status;
- Enrolled/Registered - "Menu. There are four categories. Please say Navigation, Information, Entertainment, or Vehicle Assist".
- Not Enrolled/Registered - "Menu. You can say Port Inspection, Dealer PDI, Vehicle Report, Navigation Demo, or Goodbye".
VEHICLE NOT YET ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected. Turn the engine ON with key or press the "START/STOP" button with the foot engaged on the brake pedal.
- Allow engine to idle for 10 seconds, and then press the Blue Link button
on the rear view mirror.
- Wait for the system to prompt "Please say the name of the service" , and then say "Vehicle Report" . System will confirm by stating "Vehicle Report Submitted" .
- After confirmation, the system will prompt "Please say the name of the service" , and then say "Goodbye ". Blue Link system will then disconnect and end the call.
- LEAVE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 MINUTES , and then turn the engine off.
- Blue Link DTC clearing procedure complete.
VEHICLE ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected. Turn the engine ON with key or press the "START/STOP" button with the foot engaged on the brake pedal.
- Allow engine to idle for 10 seconds, and then press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror.
- Wait for the system to prompt "Please say the name of the service" , and then say "Vehicle Assist ".
- System will confirm by stating "Vehicle Assist, you can say roadside assistance, agent assistance, service link, quick tip, or main menu" .
- Then say "Blue Link Service Complete ". This is a hidden command, so the Blue Link interactive voice will not list it as an available option.
- System will confirm by stating "Service complete please say Main Menu or Goodbye ", then say "Goodbye". Blue Link system will then disconnect and end the call.
- LEAVE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 MINUTES , and then turn the engine off.
- Blue Link DTC clearing procedure complete.

Dear 2012 Hyundai Veloster Owner:
Since launching Blue Link, Hyundai has received accolades for leading the industry in Cloud-Based In-Car Application technology. We have also achieved leadership in telematics feature offering with over 30 Safety, Security, and Convenience features. Through December 2011, we have sold more than 85,000 vehicles equipped with Blue Link providing Hyundai customers peace of mind with the Assurance Package, adding convenience with the Essentials Package and getting them where they need to go with the Guidance Package. Even so, we continue to strive for further improvements and are issuing a Service Campaign to increase your satisfaction with your 2012 Veloster with Blue Link. This letter provides you with information about the Service Campaign.
What is the purpose of the Service Campaign?
- This Service Campaign will increase functionality of the Blue Link system by improving the maintenance alert interface and reducing the time to connect to services upon pressing the Blue Link button or Enhanced Navigation Services button.
- ATTENTION: This necessary upgrade to the Blue Link system is required so you will not experience any interruption in services. Vehicles not upgraded by April 30, 2012 will no longer be able to access Blue Link and subscriptions will be suspended until the upgrade is performed.
What vehicles does this apply to?
- This Service Campaign applies only to 2012 model year Sonatas and Velosters enrolled in Blue Link.
What will Hyundai do?
- Hyundai will perform a software update and inspect/replace components as required at no cost to you.
What should you do?
- Please schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience to take your vehicle to your Hyundai dealer. When you make an appointment, please confirm the dealers schedule to determine how much time will be required to perform the work so you may plan appropriately.
- To avoid any interrupt ion of Blue Link services, your 2012 Veloster must receive the system software upgrade prior to April 30, 2012 .
To help facilitate the upgrade process, you can schedule an online appointment with a Hyundai dealer or use "Service Link" from your vehicle by pressing the Blue Link button.
To schedule an online appointment, please visit Hyundai.com, click on "Find a Dealer" and input your zip code. When your preferred dealer appears, click on "Schedule Service" under their address.
- If you already have a log-in and password for online scheduling, enter them, click on "Log In", then click on "Repair". Select "Campaign" and in the "Repair Service" box, enter the code: VELOSTER TK3 and click on "OK". Follow the instructions on the next screens to schedule your appointment.
- If you do not have a log-in and password, complete the information under "New Customer" and click on "Repair". Select "Campaign" and in the "Repair Service" box, enter the code: VELOSTER TK3 and click on "OK". Follow the instructions on the next screens to schedule your appointment.
If your preferred dealer does not have a link to schedule service online, please call them to schedule an appointment.
You can also use the Blue Link feature, Service Link, to schedule your appointment. Simply press the Blue Link button and when prompted for a command, say "Service Link". An agent will work with you to schedule your appointment. To ensure you are scheduled accurately, provide the campaign code, VELOSTER TK3, when prompted for appointment type.
