Fuel Injection System - I-TEC EFI: Description

The I-TEC System is a computerized emission, ignition, and fuel control system. The I-TEC system controls engine operation and lowers exhaust emissions while maintaining good fuel economy and driveability. The Control Unit is the "brain" of the system.

The control unit monitors information from various sensors and constantly adjusts spark timing and fuel delivery. The fuel system functions governed by the control unit are fuel injection volume and air/fuel ratio control.

The control unit governs fuel injection operation by reading data from the following sources: O2 sensor, crank angle sensor, vehicle speed sensor, water temperature sensor, air flow sensor, and throttle valve switch.

The fuel delivery system consists of the fuel tank, fuel pump, pressure regulator, and fuel injectors. The injectors are aimed at the intake valve of each cylinder.

NOTE: Primary sub-systems which affect fuel system operation will be covered. These include the fuel supply system, fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, data sensors and fuel cut system. Refer to the ISUZU I-TEC CONTROL SYSTEM article in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS section for more information.
