Air Injection System: Description

NOTE: For information on I-Mark, see GENERAL MOTORS CORP./ISUZU AIR INJECTION SYSTEM article.

The air injection system adds secondary air to exhaust ports for further burning of exhaust gases. System consists of an air pump with a built-in relief valve (electric motor type on Impulse models), a check valve, an air injection manifold with air injection nozzles, an air switching valve, a mixture control valve and an electrically controlled vacuum switching valve..

Pickup 2.3L uses a mixture control valve to prevent backfiring in the exhaust system during deceleration. On Impulse, Pickup 2.6L and Trooper II, the air system is controlled by the electronic control module of the I-TEC system.
