Component Testing: Commutator

  1. If commutator out-of-round is more than .002" (.05 mm), turn the commutator on a lathe until out-of-round is within specification.
  2. On all models except Impulse, wear or cutting limit of commutator is 1.34" (34 mm). On Impulse, wear or cutting limit of commutator is 1.14" (29 mm) on A/T models and 1.06" (27 mm) on M/T models. On all models, standard undercut depth for insulating mica is .028-.035" (.71-.89). Minimum undercut depth is .008" (.20 mm).
