Generator & Regulator: Description

NOTE: This article also applies to Honda Passport. For Honda Passport, refer to Rodeo, unless otherwise indicated. For Oasis information, see Odyssey in HONDA section.

Amigo, Rodeo 3.2L and Trooper are equipped with a 75-amp generator with an Integrated Circuit (IC) voltage regulator mounted inside generator.

On all models, voltage regulator and brush holder assemblies are attached to slip ring end frame. Two brushes carry current through 2 slip rings to a field coil mounted on a rotor. Stator windings, assembled inside a laminated core, form part of generator frame assembly. A rectifier bridge containing diodes is connected to stator windings.

In the charge indicator light circuit, a diode monitors alternating voltage at the stator. When monitored voltage and charging voltage are equal, the charge indicator light is turned off.

The Amigo and Rodeo 3.2L alternator has a fuel economy feature. When vehicle is accelerated and the headlights are off, generator output drops, reducing load on engine.
