4.0L models use a Bosch DW 1.7K starter consisting of a series-wound, 4-pole, 4-brush motor, utilizing either wedge-shaped or conventional brushes. When starter is energized, a housing-mounted solenoid shifts roller-type starter clutch and pinion, engaging ring gear. Starters are pre-engaged type.
