CAUTION:
See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE:
For more information on brake system, see DISC article.
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during panic braking. This allows operator to maintain steering control while stopping vehicle in shortest distance possible. Major components are hydraulic unit, wheel speed sensors, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module (CM) on non-traction control equipped vehicles, Anti-Lock Brake System/Traction Control (ABS/TC) Control Module (CM) on traction control equipped vehicles and ANTI-LOCK warning light. See Figure. ABS has a self-diagnostic system to indicate a system malfunction and for use in system trouble shooting.
