Removal & Installation
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. On XJ8 and XJR, remove dust cap from LF and RF brake caliper bleed valves. Open LF and RF caliper bleeder valves. On XK8, remove dust cap from LF and LR brake caliper bleed valves. Open LR and LR caliper bleeder valves. On all models, connect a bleed pipe to bleed valves. Place other end of bleed pipes into a container. Depress brake pedal 2.3" (60 mm) and hold using a brake pedal tool.
- Close bleeder valves. Remove bleed pipes. On XK8, remove elbow from washer bottle filler neck. Remove and discard "O" ring. On all models, disconnect ABS/TCCM electrical connections. Pull plunger upwards to disengage connector. Position rags to catch brake fluid from hydraulic control unit. Disconnect hydraulic control unit brake lines. Disconnect 3 (or 4 depending on system) brake lines located inline across unit first. Disconnect 2 brake lines located inline across unit second. Disconnecting brake lines in this sequence will minimize brake fluid loss.
- Remove unit from vehicle. Use caution to not bend brake lines during removal. Cap all brake line connections both on hydraulic control unit and vehicle brake lines. Remove ABS/TCCM from hydraulic control unit.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. After connecting ABS/TCCM electrical connections, push plunger downwards to engage connector. Remove brake pedal holding tool. Reconnect battery negative cable. On XK8, install a NEW "O" ring seal and washer bottle filler neck. On all models, bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
