Throttle Position Sensor
NOTE:
Throttle position sensor (TPS) has a 4 terminal harness connector and a 3 terminal harness connector to adjust TPS. Terminals are identified by letters molded to back of them. TPS adjustments are performed with a digital volt meter. DO NOT disconnect harness connectors to check voltage.
- Turn ignition to "ON" position. Using voltmeter with negative probe inserted in back of terminal "D" and positive probe connected to the back of terminal "A", check input voltage. Close throttle completely, ensuring throttle lever is seated against idle stop. Input voltage should read approximately 5 volts.
- Leave voltmeter negative probe in back of terminal "D". Attach positive probe to back of terminal "B". With throttle still closed, check output voltage. Output voltage for 4-cylinder models should be approximately 0.2 volt. Output voltage for 6-cylinder models should be approximately 4.2 volts. If voltage output is incorrect, adjust as required.
- To adjust Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), ensure voltmeter is still connected to terminals "B" and "D". Loosen sensor attaching screws. Partially tighten one screw to allow adjustment of sensor but not enough to allow unwanted movement. Rotate sensor while observing voltmeter. When proper voltage reading is obtained, tighten sensor attaching screws.
