First-Reverse Brake Pistons: Reassembly
- Lubricate NEW "O" rings with petroleum jelly. Install "O" rings on reaction sleeve and No. 1 and No. 2 first-reverse brake pistons.
- Assemble No. 1 first-reverse brake piston on reaction sleeve. Install No. 1 first-reverse brake piston and reaction sleeve on No. 2 first-reverse brake piston.
- Align piston assembly with slots in transmission case. Using hand pressure, install piston assembly in transmission case. Install piston return springs and retainer.
- Using spring compressor, compress piston return springs and install snap ring. Ensure ends of snap ring are not aligned with tangs on retainer for piston return springs. Remove spring compressor.
- Apply low air pressure on transmission case and check for smooth operation of No. 1 and No. 2 first-reverse brake pistons. See Figure .
- Verify bearing and race assembly identification by measuring inside and outside diameter. Bearing and race assembly outside diameter is 2.272" (57.71 mm) with inside diameter of 1.543" (39.19 mm). Coat bearing and race assembly with petroleum jelly and install.
