Trans Over Temp Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition off. Press and hold TRIP/RESET button on instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) self-test will start. If TRANS OVER TEMP indicator light illuminates for about 4 seconds and then goes out, go to next step. If TRANS OVER TEMP indicator light does not illuminate for about 4 seconds and then go out, go to step  3.
  2. Using scan tool, read TRANSMISSION DTCs. If any TRANSMISSION DTCs are present, go to appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no TRANSMISSION DTCs are present, test is complete.
  3. Using scan tool, read TRANSMISSION DTCs. If no TRANSMISSION DTCs are present, go to next step. If any TRANSMISSION DTCs are present, go to appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no ENGINE DTCs are present, test is complete.
  4. Remove and inspect TRANS OVER TEMP indicator bulb. Replace as needed. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
  5. Replace instrument printed circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
