Transponder Programming

NOTE: This procedure requires 2 previously programmed keys. If keys are not available, see PROGRAMMING in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CHEROKEE article or BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article.
  1. Additional keys can be programmed, up to a total of 8 per vehicle. Obtain manufacturer transponder blanks matching ignition key lock cylinder key codes. Insert one of the valid smart keys into ignition switch, and turn ignition on.
  2. Leave ignition on for at least 3 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. Turn ignition off. Remove smart key No. 1 and install smart key No. 2. Turn ignition on. After 10 seconds, indicator light will flash and an audible chime will be heard. The system has entered the customer learn programming mode.
  3. Within 50 seconds, turn ignition off. Remove valid smart key and insert a blank key. Turn ignition on. After 10 seconds, indicator light will stop flashing and another audible chime will be heard. This indicates that the new key has been successfully programmed. Repeat procedure for each new key needing programming.
