Part Time Indicator Light Test

  1. Ensure 4WD system is operating properly. If system is not operating properly, check and repair as necessary. See appropriate TRANSFER CASES article. If PART TIME indicator light does not operate, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage between ground and powered side of fuse No. 10 (10-amp) in fuse box. Fuse box is located behind glove box. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between fuse and ignition switch.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect transfer case switch connector. Switch is located at top of transfer case, between main body and front driveshaft. Check continuity between ground and transfer case switch harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit.
  4. Reconnect battery cable. Turn ignition on. Connect a jumper wire between switch harness connector terminal "A" and ground. If indicator light does not work, go to next step. If indicator light works, replace transfer case switch.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect jumper wire. Check continuity between instrument cluster Green C1 connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Red wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, locate and repair short to ground.
  6. Check continuity of Black/Red wire between instrument cluster Green C1 connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Red wire) and switch harness connector terminal "A". If continuity exists, replace bulb. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit.
