Fan, Cooling: Removal: 6.2L

CAUTION:

Care must be used when trying to remove the upper and lower shroud covers. Damaging the holes in the cover may cause it to become loose and not perform properly.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  2. Remove the air intake assembly.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    The lower shroud cover needs to be removed in order to remove the cooling fan assembly from the mounting tabs.

  4. If equipped, remove the lower engine shield.
  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  6. Remove the lower shroud cover (4) by using a pick (2) to pull the cover retaining hole away from the clip (3) along the bottom of the cooling fan assembly (1).
  7. Lower vehicle.

  8. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  9. Remove the bolt (2) that mounts the upper A/C line support bracket (3) to the front radiator support (1).

  10. Remove the nut (2) that secures the front section of the A/C liquid line (3) to the rear section of the A/C liquid line (1).

  11. Disconnect the electric fan connector (1).
    NOTE:

    The cooling fan assembly is held in place by clips that are part of the radiator. So care must be used so the clips are not damaged during fan removal.

  12. Remove shroud (3) assembly from vehicle by pressing the locking clips (2) inwards with a flat blade screwdriver.
  13. Pull the fan/shroud assembly upwards and away from the radiator with the upper cooling fan assembly shroud cover in place.
  14. Remove the cooling fan assembly from vehicle.

  15. Remove the upper fan shroud cover (1) by using a pick (3) to pull the cover retaining hole away from the clip (2).
