Pump, Water: Installation: 3.2L
The water pump on 3.2L engines is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case cover.
- Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
- Using a NEW
seal, install the water pump and bolts (1, 2).NOTE:
The shorter water pump bolts (3) bolt directly to the timing cover.
- Tighten the M6 water pump bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 3.2L .
- Tighten the M8 water pump bolt (4) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 3.2L .
- Spin the water pump to be sure that pump impeller does not rub against timing chain case/cover (1).
- Install the lower radiator hose and the bypass hose.
- Install the idler pulley (1) and tighten the bolt (2) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 3.2L
.CAUTION:
When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction.
- Install the serpentine belt (3). Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION .
- Install the right wheel housing splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
- Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION

- Slightly raise the engine to install the engine mount bracket (1) and tighten the M8 mounting bolt (3) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 3.2L . Tighten the M12 mounting bolts (2) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 3.2L .
- Install the right engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
- Install the pressurized coolant bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
- Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
- Evacuate air and refill cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
- Check the cooling system for leaks. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM LEAKS .
