Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Drain automatic transaxle fluid.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal(B) from the battery(A).

  3. Remove the engine cover(A).

  4. After disconnecting the AFS connector(A) and removing the air cleaner upper body(B), take the air cleaner filter out of the air cleaner under body.

  5. After disconnecting the PCM connectors(B), remove the air cleaner under body(A).

  6. Remove the battery tray(A).

  7. Remove the transaxle oil cooler hoses(A) releasing the clamps.

  8. Disconnect the ground wire(A).

  9. Disconnect the connectors related to the transaxle.
    1. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector(A).

    2. Disconnect the inhibitor switch connector(A).

    3. Disconnect the input speed sensor connector(A).

    4. Disconnect the output speed sensor connector(A).

    5. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector(A).

  10. Disconnect the control cable by removing the nut(A).

  11. After removing the front wheels and tires and lifting up the vehicle, remove the under cover(A).

  12. Drain power steering fluid. (Refer to HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM )
  13. Remove the pressure tube from the power steering oil pump. (Refer to HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM )
  14. After releasing the power steering hose clamp(A), disconnect the hose with the tube.

    CAUTION: Clamp or plug the power steering hose to avoid excessive fluid loss. When re-connecting, remove the clamp or hose plug and check power steering reservoir fluid level.
  15. Remove the exhaust pipe. (See INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM - 2.4L or INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM - 2.7L )
  16. Remove the lower arm assembly and tie rod mounting bolts. (See FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM /HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM )
  17. Supporting the sub frame with a jack, remove the sub frame mounting bolts. (See HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM )
  18. After loosening the steering column bolt and lowering a jack, remove the sub frame. (See HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM )
  19. Lowering the vehicle down, remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts(A).

  20. Using the SST(09200-38001), support the engine and transaxle assembly safely.

  21. Remove the transaxle insulator mounting bolt(A).

  22. Remove the starter. (See STARTING SYSTEM - 2.4L or STARTING SYSTEM - 2.7L )
  23. Remove the bolts(B-4EA) which connect the drive plate with the torque converter.
  24. Remove the inner shaft mounting bolts and take the drive shafts off the transaxle assembly. (See DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY )
  25. After supporting the transaxle with a jack and removing the under mounting bolts(A).
