OCCUPANT DETECTION/CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM UNIT REPLACEMENT (SC207)
SERVICE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN
| KIA: | 2021 Forte (BDm), K5 (DL3a) and Telluride (ON) |
| GROUP: | Safety Recall Campaign |
SERVICE INFORMATION
This service bulletin provides information to replace the Occupant Detection System (ODS)/Occupant Classification System (OCS) unit on certain vehicles listed in the table below. An ODS/OCS unit detects the presence of a child restraint system (CRS) in the front passenger seat. The ODS/OCS units on these vehicles were improperly calibrated at the supplier and as a result do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS 208), "Occupant Crash Protection". If a CRS is placed in the front passenger seat, the front passenger airbag will not be suppressed and will deploy, thereby increasing the risk of injury to the child in a CRS in a crash. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
*It is never recommended to allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. Never install a Child Restraint System on the front passenger seat.
