Preliminary Inspection: Notes

Diagnosis of the Anti-Lock Brake System should begin with a visual check of the components for leaks, loose connectors or damage. After the visual inspection , check for fault codes stored in the Anti-Lock Brake System ECU (Z108). If a fault code or codes are stored, record the codes and then proceed to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  . If no codes are stored, repair by symptom, See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.

If a fault has occurred, or has been identified by ECU self diagnostic function and ABS warning light is illuminated, system and components must be checked to locate and rectify fault, enabling faulty component or harness to be replaced.

If warning lamp has indicated a fault in system, and no fault code has been stored in memory, cause of fault is one of the following:

• Failure in electrical supply.
• Loss of hydraulic pressure.
• Faulty pressure switch.
• Bad ECU Ground.
• Faulty warning light relay.
• System not fully charged before driving away.
• ECU not connected.

Before commencing fault diagnosis procedure following items must be checked:

• Inspect all exposed cables for damage or abrasion.
• Check ABS system ground circuit.
• Battery - state of charge.
• Fluid level in reservoir.
• All ABS fuses and electrical connections.
• Check hub end-float.
