Centering Steering Wheel: Defender
- Raise and support vehicle. See JACKING & HOISTING . Using a Ball Joint Separator (LRT-57-018), disconnect drag link at pitman arm. Gently turn steering wheel to full right lock position. Turn steering wheel back exactly 2 turns. Reconnect drag link to pitman arm. Tighten drag link nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 N.m).
- Road test vehicle ensuring steering wheel is straight. If steering wheel is to the right, drag link is too short. If steering wheel is to the left, drag link is too long. Loosen drag link adjuster sleeve clamps and turn sleeve until steering wheel is straight. Tighten adjusting sleeve clamp bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m). Test drive vehicle and recheck.
