Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

Installed in heater outlet fitting at front of intake manifold near right valve cover, the ECT sensor converts coolant temperature to an electrical signal for the ECA. The brass sensor housing contains a thermistor (a resistor that changes value according to temperature). The ECA is able to determine engine coolant temperature by the resistance value of the sensor.
