Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see the BRAKE SYSTEM article.
CAUTION: See the ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop vehicle in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, ABS control module, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, pedal travel switch, 4 wheel sensors and 2 warning lights (ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE). See Fig 1 .

Some models are equipped with optional Traction Assist (TA). TA works with the ABS to control rear wheel spin when vehicle is accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces.
