Traction Control: Anti-Lock: Description

CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. During normal anti-lock operation, a pulsation in brake pedal and a clicking sound will be sensed. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, ABS control module, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch (also functions as brakelight switch), 4 wheel sensors, and 2 warning lights (Amber ABS and Red BRAKE).

Some vehicles are equipped with an optional Traction Control System (TCS). TCS works with ABS to control front wheel spin when vehicle is accelerated on slippery or loose surfaces.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see appropriate DISC & DRUM article.
