Troubleshooting an electronically-controlled automatic transmission is simplified by using the proven method of diagnosis. One of the most important things to remember is that there is a definite procedure to follow.

Follow the procedures as written to avoid missing critical components or steps.

To diagnose a concern correctly, the technician should have the following available:

Refer to appropriate article in TRANSMISSION .
Refer to appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
Wiring Diagram.
- For Expedition, refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- For Navigator, refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
