Timing Drive Components: Removal

CAUTION: Since the engine is not free-wheeling, timing procedures must be followed exactly or piston and valve damage may occur.
  1. Remove the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to ENGINE FRONT COVER .
  2. Remove the roller followers. For additional information, refer to CAMSHAFT ROLLER FOLLOWER .
  3. Remove the crankshaft sensor ring from the crankshaft.

  4. NOTE: Notice where the timing marks are in relation to the camshaft keyways.

  5. Rotate the crankshaft until both camshaft keyways are 90 degrees from the valve cover surface.
  6. Remove the (A) bolts and the (B) LH timing chain tensioner.

  7. Remove the (A) bolts and the (B) RH timing chain tensioner.

  8. Remove the LH and RH timing chain tensioner arm from the dowel pins.
  9. Remove the timing chains and crankshaft sprockets from the camshafts and crankshaft.

  10. Remove the timing chain guide
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the LH timing chain guide.
    3. Remove the bolts.
    4. Remove the RH timing chain guide.
