Air Switching Valve

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Disconnect the vacuum sensing tube from the No. 1 relief valve diaphragm. Disconnect the air pump inlet-to-control valve hose. Also, disconnect control valve-to-exhaust manifold hose (on bottom of air control valve).
  2. If equipped, disconnect the vacuum sensing tubes from No. 2 relief valve. Disconnect and plug vacuum sensing tube from air switching valve diaphragm. Start engine and run at idle speed.
  3. Apply intake manifold vacuum to No. 1 relief valve diaphragm. Place finger over air control valve outlet ports. Air should NOT be discharged from either port.
  4. Connect intake manifold vacuum directly to air switching valve diaphragm. Air should be discharged from control valve-to-exhaust manifold outlet port (below air switching valve). If air switching valve does not respond as outlined, replace air control valve assembly.
