Assembly Procedure
- Apply ATF to the new inner and outer seals, and install them onto the low and reverse brake piston.
Seal Ring Inner Diameter:
- Inner Seal: 156.5 mm {6.161 in}
- Outer Seal: 1S8.0 mm {7.402 in}
- Face the outer seal lip toward the inside by gently rolling it down around the circumference for easier installation into the case.
- Install the low and reverse brake piston by pushing evenly around the circumference, being careful not to damage the outer seal.
- Install the spring and retainer component.
- Install the SSTs
in the transaxle case as shown.CAUTION:
- Depress the spring retainer and retainer component only enough to install the snap ring. Overpressing will damage the assembly edges.
- Compress the spring and retainer.
- Install the snap ring.
- Remove the SSTs .
- Install the wave spring with the buff finish downward.
- Install the drive and driven plates in the following order.
Driven-Drive-Driven-Drive-Driven-Drive-Driven-Drive
- Install the retaining plate.
- Install the snap ring.
- Measure the clearance between the low and reverse brake retaining plate and the snap ring. Make several measurements and calculate the average value.
- If the clearance is not within the specification, adjust it by selecting a proper plate from below.
Low And Reverse Brake Clearance
- 1.5-1.8 mm {0.06-0.07 in}
Retaining Plate Sizes
LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE RETAINING PLATE SIZES (mm {in})7.0 {0.276} 7.2 {0.283} 7.4 {0.291} 7.6 {0.299} 6.8 {0.268} - WARNING:- Using compressed air can cause dirt and other particles to fly out, causing injury to the eyes. Wear protective eye wear whenever using compressed air.
CAUTION:- Applying compressed air to the assembled clutch pack for longer than 3 seconds at a time will damage the seal. Do not apply compressed air for more than the aforementioned time when testing the system.
- Inspect the low and reverse brake operation by applying compressed air through the fluid passage as shown in the figure.
Air Pressure:
- 390 kPa {4.0 kgf/cm 2 , 57 psi} max.
