Generator Current

Verify battery is fully charged. Charge as necessary
Verify that the drive belt deflection/tension is within the specification. See BELT DEFLECTION under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust as necessary.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Connect a circuit tester, capable of reading 120 volts or more between generator terminal "B" and the wiring harness.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Turn all electrical loads off.
Start the engine and increase the engine speed to 2000-2500 RPM.
Turn the headlights, blower motor and rear window defroster on, and verify the current reading increases.

NOTE: Current required for generating power varies with electrical loads applied.

Turn headlights (high-beam), blower motor (high), rear window defroster and brake lights on and verify that the current reading increases. If generator terminal "B" current does not increase, repair or replace the generator if necessary. See GENERATOR AMPERAGE table.
Standard current (reference) - Measuring conditions:
- Room temperature: 68°F (20°C).
- Voltage: 13.5 volts.
- Engine hot.
