Liftgate Light Removal/Installation: Notes

NOTE:
  • Fogging or dew condensation may occur on the inside of the liftgate light because of a natural phenomenon occurring as a result of a temperature difference between the interior and exterior of the liftgate light. However, it has no effect on the light performance because the phenomenon is resolved when temperature inside the liftgate light rises after the back-up light turns on or a period of time has elapsed.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the following parts:
    1. Liftgate upper trim (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Liftgate side trim (See LIFTGATE SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Liftgate recess (See LIFTGATE RECESS REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Liftgate lower trim (See LIFTGATE LOWER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Liftgate garnish (See LIFTGATE GARNISH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Rear finisher (See REAR FINISHER REMOVAL .) (See REAR FINISHER INSTALLATION .)
  3. Disconnect the connector.

  4. Remove the nut.
  5. Insert the remover tool into the service hole at the position shown in the figure.

  6. Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure, pull out the service hole cover tab from the bracket and detach the service hole cover tab from the bracket.

  7. Pull the service hole cover guide from the bracket and remove the service hole cover.
  8. Insert the remover tool into the gap between tab A of the bracket and liftgate light.

  9. While pressing tab A of the bracket in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure using the remover tool, pull the bracket in the direction of arrow (2) to detach tab A of the bracket from the liftgate light.
  10. Insert the remover tool into the gap between tab B of the bracket and the liftgate light.

  11. While pressing tab B of the bracket in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure using the remover tool, pull the bracket in the direction of arrow (2) to detach tab B of the bracket from the liftgate light.
  12. Insert the remover tool into the gap between tab C of the bracket and the liftgate light.

  13. While pressing tab C of the bracket in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure using the remover tool, pull the bracket in the direction of arrow (2) to detach tab C of the bracket from the liftgate light.
  14. Insert the remover tool into the gap between tab D of the bracket and the liftgate light.

  15. While pressing tab D of the bracket in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure using the remover tool, pull the bracket in the direction of arrow (2) to detach tab D of the bracket from the liftgate light.
  16. Remove the bracket from the liftgate light.
    CAUTION:
    • When removing the liftgate light from the liftgate, the liftgate light could contact the liftgate and damage it. Apply protective tape to the liftgate before removing the liftgate light from the liftgate.
  17. To prevent scratches, apply protective tape to the position shown in the figure.

  18. Using the remover tool, remove the liftgate light gasket.
    CAUTION:
    • When removing the liftgate light from the liftgate, the liftgate light may fall off and be damaged. Remove the liftgate light from the liftgate while holding the liftgate light on the lens side by hand.
  19. Move the liftgate light in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and pull out the pins and stud bolt from the liftgate.

  20. Remove the liftgate light. (See LIFTGATE LIGHT INSTALLATION NOTE .)
  21. While pressing tabs of grommet A in the direction of arrows (1) shown in the figure, push out grommet A in the direction of arrow (2) to remove grommet A from the liftgate.

  22. While pressing tabs of grommet B in the direction of arrows (3) shown in the figure, push out grommet B in the direction of arrow (4) to remove grommet B from the liftgate.
  23. Install in the reverse order of removal.
