Fuel Injection System - BOSCH Cis-E: Description

Bosch CIS-E fuel injection uses basic CIS (continuous injection system) for fuel delivery and electronic controls for mixture correction functions.

Mechanical portion of CIS-E system consists of mixture control unit (airflow sensor and fuel distributor), diaphragm pressure regulator (system pressure regulation), auxiliary air regulator (throttle by-pass), cold start valve, fuel injectors, fuel pump and filter.

Electronic controls consist of airflow sensor position indicator (potentiometer), electro-hydraulic actuator, thermo time switch, coolant temperature sensor, electronic control unit (ECU), transistorized ignition switching unit, throttle valve microswitch, altitude (barometric) sensor, lambda control and O2 sensor.

If ECU malfunctions, CIS-E system will operate in back-up or "limp-home" mode until system can be repaired. System on Mercedes-Benz 190E has over-voltage protection for electronic components.
