Steering Column: Description: Notes

The steering column assembly includes an impact absorbing steering wheel, upper and lower column shafts and flexible coupling. The lower shaft on 300TD models is corrugated for additional impact protection. Some models are equipped with the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). An airbag, and an emergency tensioning retractor (ETR) system increases the safety of the occupants.

A corrugated tube, and a modified steering box has been phased into model 190. The steering shaft is connected by a coupling to the steering box, which allows easier removal and installation of the steering box. The previous version steering shaft and steering box cannot be interchanged with the modified version.
