Bleeding Brake System

NOTE: Ensure fluid level in master cylinder reservoir is adequate at all times during bleeding procedure. Use only DOT 4 brake fluid. DO NOT use DOT 5 silicone fluid.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR), turn ignition off. Remove cover on hydraulic unit. On all vehicles, remove cap from brake fluid reservoir.
  2. Connect pressure bleeding equipment according to equipment manufacturers instructions. Caliper bleeding sequence is RR, LR, RF and LF. If brake system was opened downstream of hydraulic unit (brake calipers, brake hoses and brakelines), bleed approximately 1/10th of a quart of brake fluid from each brake caliper.
  3. If brake system was opened at hydraulic unit or upstream of hydraulic unit (ASR pressure reservoir, ASR charging pump, tandem master brake cylinder and brakelines), bleed approximately 2/10ths of a quart of brake fluid from each brake caliper.
  4. On ASR equipped vehicles, start engine. Open hydraulic unit bleed screw labeled "SP". Bleed approximately 1/10th of a quart of brake fluid until brake fluid flows clear and free of air.
  5. Close hydraulic unit bleed screw "SP". ASR charging pump will run for approximately 30 seconds. Turn engine off. On all vehicles, disconnect pressure bleeding equipment. Fill brake fluid reservoir to proper level.
