Checking Fluid Level

CAUTION: If transmission oil level is too low or too full, it could affect transmission operation. Manufacturer recommends removing excess transmission oil. If necessary to check transmission oil level, Dipstick (140 589 15 21 00) is available from manufacturer.
  1. Use Dipstick (140 589 15 21 00) to check transmission oil level with vehicle parked on a level surface. Using a screwdriver, remove locking pin from transmission tube cap. Remove transmission tube cap. Insert dipstick. Place selector lever in Park and set parking brake. Allow engine to idle.
  2. Shift transmission through all gears ending in Park. If transmission is cold, with transmission oil temperature about 86°F (30°C), oil level should be between minimum and maximum marks for cold reading (lower scale on dipstick).
  3. If transmission is warm, with transmission oil temperature about 176°F (80°C), oil level should be between minimum and maximum marks for warm reading (upper scale on dipstick). Measure fluid level with dipstick completely inserted. If necessary to add transmission fluid, add fluid with engine idling.
