Ignition switch lock, function 

The EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) locks the transmitter key (A8/1) manual as of "terminal 15R ON".

As soon as the vehicle speed exceeds the speed threshold of 8 km/h, the EIS [EZS] control unit prevents removal of the transmitter key as gear selector switch position "P" (Key-P function) cannot be automatically engaged by the intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT (A80).

As long as the vehicle speed remains under the speed threshold, the transmitter key can be removed and the following gear selector switch position is automatically switched by the intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT:

• Gear selector switch position "P", on model 221 up to 31.8.06, model 164 and model 251 up to 31.5.07
• Gear selector switch position "N", on model 216, model 221 as of 1.9.06, model 164 and model 251 as of 1.6.07

On model 216, model 221 as of 1.9.06, model 164 and model 251 as of 1.6.07 the gear selector switch position "P" is switched automatically by the Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT as soon as the driver door is opened.
