UPDATE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE 

CHECK TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE AND UPDATE IF NECESSARY 

THIS SERVICE CAMPAIGN AFFECTS RETAILED VEHICLES AND DEALER INVENTORY.

AFFECTED VEHICLES IN DEALER INVENTORY MUST BE REPAIRED PRIOR TO RETAIL SALE.

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles the engine control module software may lead to rough shifting. Dealers will check and if necessary update the engine control module and transmission control module software on the affected vehicles during the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire  and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 3,476 vehicles are affected.

PROCEDURE

NOTE: Prior to starting the procedure ensure to:
  • DAS version 10/2007 or 11/2007 and the flashware CD for Campaign 2007110001.
NOTE: As of DAS version 01/2008, engine control module must be updated from hard drive.
  • Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS.
  • Connect battery charger.

A. UPDATE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

  1. Connect Star Diagnosis.
  2. Install engine control module software:

    Follow the DAS path: Control units/Drive/CDI 4 - Common Rail Injection/Control unit adaptations/Control unit programming/Update control unit from flash disc  with the following "new control unit software version":

    • Model 164: A012 448 41 02
    • Model 164.8: A012 448 47 02
    • Model 251: A012 448 53 02
    NOTE: DO NOT  update engine control module software from hard drive, update only from flash disc  .
  3. SCN code engine control module:

    Continue with menu item: Control unit programming and follow on screen instructions.

    NOTE: For information on SCN coding, refer to service bulletin: S-B-58.00/144B

B. CHECK TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE AND UPDATE IF NECESSARY

  1. Check software release of electronic transmission control module:
    • Follow DAS path: Control units/Drive/Transmission/Electronic transmission control/Control unit adaptations/Control module programming.
    • If software release A 006 448 7810 is not  present proceed to step 2.
    • If software release A 006 448 7810 is present proceed to step 3.
    NOTE: SCN coding of the engine control module must be performed prior to proceeding with the following steps.
  2. Install electronic transmission control module software and perform SCN coding:
    • Install electronic transmission control module software from hard disc  :

      Follow DAS path: Control module programming and follow on screen instructions.

    • SCN code transmission control module:

      Continue with menu item: Control module programming and follow on screen instructions.

      Procedure is now completed.

  3. SCN code transmission control module:

    Follow DAS path: Control module/Drive/Transmission/ETC Electronic transmission control/Control module adaptations/SCN coding.

NOTE: The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
