4MATIC output, general

Propeller shaft (5) is used for torque transmission from output (4) of transfer case to front axle transmission. The transmission-end universal joint (3) of the propeller shaft (5) is integrated in the output gear (2) of the output (4). The propeller shaft tube is pushed on to the joint fork of the output (4) through a 7° spiral-tracked teeth. Straight assembly of the universal joints (3) is necessary in order to ensure uniform transfer of rotation. On the front axle transmission side, the propeller shaft (5) is screwed with the drive pinion of the front axle transmission via a propeller shaft flange (7).

IMPORTANT Universal joints (3)

Generally, a universal joint that runs under an angular offset generates an unequal rotary motion. If the angles that are generated between the axles of the propeller shaft tube and the joint forks are equal and if they lie at the same level, the unequal values of both universal joints are mutually offset. The power take-off speed of the propeller shaft (5) at the front axle transmission is thus equal.
