Ignition Control

Some 6 and V8 applications have a knock sensor to reduce detonation. The MCU retards timing when the sensor signals detonation. On 6 cylinder engines, the MCU opens a spark retard solenoid, which bleeds off distributor advance vacuum. On V8 engines, the MCU sends a signal to a 3-connector ignition module, which then retards timing.
