Ignition Timing
NOTE:
Timing instrument should be connected to No. 1 spark plug using adapter or snap-on connector. Do not puncture spark plug wire or boot to make connection.
- Place transmission in "P" or "N". Disconnect and plug vacuum lines at distributor. Connect timing light and tachometer to engine.
- If vehicle is equipped with a barometric pressure sensor, disconnect it from ignition module and place a jumper wire across Yellow and Black wire pins in ignition module connector.
- Warm engine to normal operating temperature. With engine at timing RPM, check timing.
- If timing is within 2° of specified timing, do not adjust. If not, loosen distributor hold-down bolt and turn distributor to adjust. Tighten bolt, then recheck timing.
- Remove test equipment and reconnect vacuum lines to distributor. Remove jumper wire from ignition module connector and reconnect to sensor.
