Ignition Timing

  1. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Run engine at 2000-3000 RPM 2 or 3 times, then allow engine to return to idle. Turn all electrical loads off. Disconnect IAC valve harness connector. Check the idle speed, it should be 750 +/- 50 RPM. Connect a timing light to the engine. Make sure the timing pointer is pointing to the 15°BTDC mark on the crankshaft pulley. See Fig 1 .
  2. Check ignition timing, it should be 15° +/- 2° BTDC. See Fig 1 . If ignition timing is incorrect, loosen distributor bolt and turn distributor to adjust ignition timing.
