Bench Testing: Stator

  1. Inspect stator for burned or discolored windings, scuff marks on the inside of stator frame, or damage to stator frame. Measure insulation resistance between stator leads and stator frame. Replace stator if continuity exists.
  2. Check for continuity between each pair of stator leads. Replace stator if continuity does not exist for each measurement. An internal short between adjacent stator windings may not be detectable. If alternator fails to produce rated output, stator windings may be shorted. If readings are not normal, replace stator.
