Air Injection System - Federal: Operation
Reed valves are actuated by exhaust vacuum being generated from pulsation in the exhaust system. Extra air is drawn through the air cleaner and supplied into the exhaust system by valve motion corresponding to exhaust vacuum. Two identical reed valves are used to supply secondary air into 2 ports (one at the exhaust manifold and one between the catalytic converters) in the exhaust system.
Air supply to exhaust manifold is actuated by pulsation in the exhaust manifold. Air supply to catalytic converters is actuated by pulsation in the exhaust system between the front and rear catalytic converters.
